4th Season as Anthem Singer for Winnipeg Goldeyes Baseball
D. Bruce Moore was invited back as an Anthem Singer for the Winnipeg Goldeyes – no re-audition required.
The Goldeyes regularly host American teams and require both anthems sung at the beginning of each game. Bruce has enjoyed to opportunity to sing for such a large crowd, and makes sure to lead “O Canada” in a key that allows the crowd to join in – and they do!

Collaberation with Romainian-born Pianist Kristian Banatzianou
Gracenote is pleased to have Kristian Banatzianou provide a piano arrangement for an orchestral accompaniment piece. Bruce then orchestrated the strings, woodwinds and percussion to complete the backing track for the traditional Irish folk song, “Carrickfergus“.
Romanian-born pianist Kristian Banatzianou has made numerous appearances as a soloist and collaborative pianist throughout Bulgaria, Austria, the United Kingdom, Romania, Slovakia, and the United States. Mr. Banatzianou holds degrees from the National School of Music in Sofia, Bulgaria, the Bulgarian State Academy of Music, the University of South Florida, and the Cleveland Institute of Music. A prizewinner of numerous international competitions, Mr. Banatzianou has made recordings for the Bulgarian National Radio and television stations.
Junson restoration project
In the early 60′s John’s parents were one of the few with a portable reel-to-reel tape recorder and they made great use of it. John brought a reel to Gracenote entitled “Johnny’s 6th birthday” for conversion and restoration. Here is his response to the finished product:
“Hi Bruce! Wow! Thanks for the great work! I’ve listened to the MP3s and can’t believe how clear the sound is – way beyond my expectations!”
Gracenote is pleased to continue conversion of another 5 reels for the Junson family.

Justin Mitchell recording complete
Justin came to Gracenote with a fully formed arrangement of his original song, “I’m in Love with You”. He played most of the instruments and worked closely with Gracenote to achieve the exact sound he was looking for. The final product is a dance / pop / rock tune with echos of the song “Surrender” by Angels and Airwaves.
Congratulations, Justin, on a fabulous first recording!
Dynamic Range Day – March 16
The competition to make one’s recording louder or as loud as others has escalated to the point where sound quality is being squashed out of the music by over-mastering.
Watch and listen to an example of how music is being destroyed in the loudness wars!

24/192 Music Downloads …and why they make no sense
“Unfortunately, there is no point to distributing music in 24-bit/192kHz format. Its playback fidelity is slightly inferior to 16/44.1 or 16/48, and it takes up 6 times the space.
There are a few real problems with the audio quality and ‘experience’ of digitally distributed music today. 24/192 solves none of them. While everyone fixates on 24/192 as a magic bullet, we’re not going to see any actual improvement.”
Acoustic bass with Daniel Koulack
Gracenote is pleased to have the acclaimed bassist, Daniel Koulack, contribute on a recent project.
“Since 1984, Daniel has played guitar and mandolin with Canada’s Klezmer ambassadors, Finjan. They have recorded four albums, two of which have garnered Juno nominations. Finjan has delighted audiences across North America and in Europe with their craft and dedication.
It is as a composer that Daniel comes into his own. Both his recordings were nominated as Best Roots and Traditional at the Junos and, since 1990, he has toured Canada with the Knappen Street All-Star Band, playing their “good-time music” for both jazz and folk audiences. He has also created music for theatre and dance and is known as a producer and arranger with a keen ear and a love of beautiful music.
In 1997, Daniel co-founded From Both Ends of the Earth with Marilyn Lerner and Sasha Boychouk, presenting modern interpretations of traditional Jewish and Ukrainian music. Festival patrons across the country have been thrilled by their unique approach to these timeless melodies.
Not one to rest on his laurels, Daniel took up the string bass and audiences from coast to coast have enjoyed his swinging contribution to the Hot Club stylings of Swing Soniq and the groove-oriented jazz of Ken Gold’s Special Grind.”
Mastering for Kevan Hannah
Gracenote mastered 3 songs for Kevan and had this response:
“Thanks so much, Bruce! Much appreciated, and everything sounds great…I posted a link/recommendation to your site on our internal intranet. Hopefully word will get around!”
Recording John Wilson
Gracenote has had the pleasure of recording some lovely finger-style playing by John Wilson. The setup is a stereo Mic/Side configuration using a ribbon mic for the centre and Neuman U87 for the side – fantastic stereo sound!
